The Center For Small Government

This summer, Re:Vision has had the honor and privilege of working with the people at The Center For Small Government to fully overhaul and upgrade their brand.

The Center’s original logo was based on a bonsai tree, because government — like a bonsai tree — can bee small if we perpetually and aggressively prune both its roots and its branches (read more about the bonsai concept…). With the conviction that this underlying concept was strong enough to build on, we set about redesigning the logo.

The goal of updating The Center’s brand and logo was to give it a cleaner, more modern design that could be applied across different mediums. Integrating warmer, more inviting colors based on the concept that the goal is the dawn of small government — a new day, if you will — and terrific illustration by David Simons, we created a fresh, new look that has since been applied to everything from t-shirts to printed materials to the new website.

And speaking of the new website… this summer (2009) Re:Vision successfully upgraded the website to rave reviews. The goal of the website redesign was two-fold: create a useful tool that The Center For Small Government could use to promote their ideas and advance their message, and apply the new brand look and feel.

Utilizing Wordpress, we created an infinitely more useful website that The Center can maintain and update themselves, allowing more current and relevant content to be published on a regular basis (previously, updating the site required someone to manually update static pages). Furthermore, it provided tools such as RSS feeds and social media links that continue to generate new traffic and reach more people.

Working with Michael Cloud and Carla Howell has been a terrific experience, and creating designs that support their work in the fight to make government smaller and accountable is extremely fulfilling.

David and I are so proud of the work we’ve done to support such a worthy cause. Please check out The Center For Small Government to learn more.

Brilliant Trips Blog Relaunched

BrilliantTips blogBrilliantTips (http://blog.brillianttrips.com) relaunched yesterday, having an immediate impact visitors overnight (literally). “Our ‘liked’ rating on stumbleupon went from 1% to 55% overnight,” said Rich Whitaker, president of BrilliantTrips.

This iteration of the blog has quite a few improvements and enhancements over the previous version, but still retains the look and feel that branded the site. The biggest update is the new design heirarchy giving visitors a clearer understanding of what’s available and how to access it. We’ve also made use of some great plug-ins to provide additional functionality to the blog.

The blog platform we used is WordPress, and the new design was based on an excellent theme developed by Michael Hutagalung. Starting with the underlying structure and functionality, we were able to design a well-branded, clean, crisp, and functional blog that helps the content shine.

BrilliantTips is a blog for travel trends, tips, and advice developed and managed by BrilliantTrips. Founded by veterans of the student travel industry, BrilliantTrips provides individuals and groups with international experiences that promote sustainable tourism and cross-cultural understanding. Check out their featured trips and their latest travel deals.

Online travel web site: BrilliantTrips

This past April a new travel web site, BrilliantTrips, was launched. Conceived as a site for young adults who are looking to get more out of their vacation (volunteer, learn a language, take a cooking course, or independently tour places off the beaten path), BrilliantTrips offers a range of travel packages and independent travel options.

When Re:Vision was originally approached by Rich Whitaker to design the Brilliant Trips web site, we were thrilled to be a part of such an exciting challenge. As a start-up, Brilliant Trips needed a logo, branding, and a web site with impact. Dave and I worked directly with Rich to ensure a solution that met well-defined goals, and we worked hand-in-hand to bring the best mix of technology and design to Brilliant Trips marketing efforts.

The challenge of the BrilliantTrips web site was to develop a site that presented complex information and multiple access points in a simple, easy-to-use interface. The BrilliantTrips web site is a great example of the best of traditional and web 2.0 tools and ideas.

The great thing about working with BrilliantTrips is that because they offer such a unique and interesting travel product it really got our creativity flowing, which shows in the final design. And the feedback has been really positive!

More recently we designed the BrilliantTrips blog: Brilliant Tips, which provides travel advice and ideas and a forum for like-minded travelers.

Historic Hayfield Manor Website

Situated on the southern bank of the Rappahannock River in Virginia, the Hayfield Manor has a history dating back to the 1700s, and has provided shelter for many owners. From the Bataille family from the county of Essex in England and then the Taylors from Cumberland on the Scottish border of the UK to the Reinhold family more recently, the manor has a rich history. Over the past several years however, the vacant house had suffered the wrath of Mother Nature and vandalism. These two unfortunate forces had left the manor in a state of disrepair but since the house is a historic treasure to the local community, something had to be done to prevent further deterioration and vandalism.

Through the leadership and dedication of Aggregate Industries and the help of local craftspeople and college historians, the restoration of the manor was completed over a period of just 12 months.

A brand new web site, www.hayfield.manor.com, was developed to feature Hayfield Manor as Aggregate Industries flagship community engagement project. We were responsible for site design and development, and worked in partnership with the Aggregate Industries US Marketing and Communications team to see this project through from conception to launch.

Aggregate Industries US Website Redesign

Aggregate Industries US websiteThis past summer, the newly updated Aggregate Industries US website www.aggregate-us.com was launched.

Working in partnership with the US Marketing and Communications team and contracted programmers, we were responsible for the design, the gui, and the underlying site structure.

The biggest issue facing the redesign was how to develop a standard look and feel that could be applied across the companies many regions and product divisions. The final solution is a clean, open design, that can be customized to meet individual region needs.
